Collective(462) is the name for a group of designers that have a lot in common with OCHRE. We’ve taken the name from our 462 Broome St address. Its ranks include some of Europe’s and the US’s finest, up-and-coming artists and craftspeople who share our sensibility and are able to make unique pieces just for the OCHRE store. None of the collective’s makers have ‘sold-out’ to the world of mainstream, mass production and prefer to maintain the purity of their craft and vision.

We believe that beautiful, well-designed things have enduring qualities which make them infinitely more appealing than mass produced objects.

kirsten hecktermann

Born in Kenya and later schooled in England, Kirsten ultimately moved to England and worked her way up in the costume department of the film industry for 10 years. She fell into working with interior textiles whilst "fiddling" at home. Passionate about textiles, Kirsten began making cushions, bedspreads and wall panels using antique textiles and hand dyed fabrics. Kirsten also works with local craftspeople in Kenya using their techniques to produce simple and "non-tourist" related products. In between this she works as an interior stylist as well as with the various stylists at The World of Interiors magazine.
